New course specializes in offshore wind logistics

Molde college is a Specialized University in Logistics with study programs in logistics on Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels, including Sustainable Energy Logistics master program. They have now recently joined Norwegian Offshore Wind, aiming to expand their teaching and research in energy logistics to the offshore wind industry. 

- Nowadays Norway is one of the largest offshore energy producers in the world, with increasing potential in offshore wind energy production. We are happy to contribute to close the education gap the offshore wind industry is facing, says Professor Irina Gribkovskaia, who is the leader of Energy Logistics research group and responsible for the course. People who are interested in this are encouraged to contact her to learn more. 

The main focus of the offshore wind logistics course will be on the logistics systems and challenges for the offshore wind industry, and development of decision support tools for offshore energy upstream logistics planning problems such as installation of offshore wind turbines, cargo transportation and aerial transportation of offshore personnel to offshore installations, maintenance of offshore units, onshore base location, sizing and operations, suppliers network design, and offshore emergency response system planning. The special focus will be on safety and zero emissions in offshore energy logistics planning.

Innovation Manager in Norwegian Offshore Wind, Chris Harman, visited Molde University College in November to learn more about their exciting plans for increasing offshore wind competence. 

- We are happy to see new initiatives targeting offshore wind. Based on several analysis and feedback from the industry, we can safely say the education sector in Norway needs to get more study placements for offshore wind in place to meet our ambitions, says Harman. 

This course in Molde provides knowledge of real-life offshore energy logistics planning problems and cases and aims to develop skills that will be highly relevant for jobs in the logistics departments of various companies involved in offshore wind energy logistics value chains and logistics networks.
