Saverio Ventrelli, Global Sales Manager of Simens Energy, takes the helm as the new working group leader for Italy.

The interest for the development in the Italian market has grown significantly the last six months.

-I am honored to take on this role. With Italy's aim to achieve 3-5 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, there is great potential for growth and innovation in this sector, says Saverio Ventrelli.

Italy's offshore wind development depends on upcoming legislation, notably the anticipated FER 2 Decree. This is expected to be published before the summer holidays. The regulatory framework will influence the direction of renewable energy deployment in Italy, providing clarity and guidance to stakeholders. The industry is eagerly awaiting the tariff for offshore wind in Italy, which will also be outlined in the FER 2 Decree.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) is expected to issue a public notice seeking expressions of interest from Port Authorities in southern Italy. This initiative aims to identify maritime state areas suitable for the development of offshore wind infrastructure, facilitating investments in production, assembly, and launching of floating platforms and electrical infrastructure.

It is great to see several members of Norwegian Offshore Wind with strong interests in Italy, motivated to contribute to achieving good results together

Saverio Ventrelli, Siemens Energy

Saverio is originally from Italy and speaks the native language, which provides a significant advantage in this market. Norwegian Offshore Wind and the working group have already started to make very good connections with Italian counterparts and are planning activities together for 2024.

-In the working group we are aiming for a bottom-up approach, asking the members if they would like to take an active part in the discussions and planning of the activities in the Italian market. It is great to see several members of Norwegian Offshore Wind with strong interests in Italy, motivated to contribute to achieving good results together.

Previously, the interest for both Greece and Italy was gathered in one working group. However, with both markets expanding, it was natural to split them in two. Gunnar Birkland will still be leading the working group on the Greek market.
