The Norwegian Infrastructure Platform for Foundation Technology Research in Offshore Wind received notification of funding from the Norwegian Research Council today, with METCentre heading up the offshore environment work.

This infrastructure will provide solutions to geotechnical and environmental challenges which are critical to ensuring safety, cost efficiency, sustainability, and the reliability of developments.

-This is especially important given our national ambitions for offshore floating wind, comments Innovation Manager in Norwegian Offshore Wind, Chris Harman.

The METCentre will lead the “Offshore Environment Node” where a suite of instrumentation and monitoring technologies will be installed for use by the wider research community as well as industry. Together with the other nodes of the project and the extended concession at METCentre for full scale turbine tests, this represents a completely unique platform for foundation technology research in offshore wind.

-We are so happy that the first Norwegian research infrastructure for offshore wind has been funded, and that some of the technologies will be hosted at METCentre. Its a real boost for us, for floating R&D in Norway, and for our industry. Sincere thanks to all the team and especially NGI, for their excellent work on developing this timely project, says Harman.
