South Korea Speeds Up Offshore Wind Auctions – 689 MW Awarded

The winning projects are:

🔹 Southwest 2 – 400 MW – Korea Offshore Wind Power
🔹 Handong-Pyeongdae – 100 MW – Jeju Energy & Korea East-West Power
🔹 Dadaepo – 99 MW – Korea Southern Power & Corio
🔹 Aphae – 80 MW – CGO, Korea Electric Power & Hyundai

All projects will deploy 10 MW Doosan turbines, with Southwest 2 choosing domestically produced units.

All projects are fixed-bottom and will use 10 MW Doosan turbines, with the exception of Southwest 2, where they will deploy 10 MW turbines produced domestically. 

According to 4C Offshore the South Korea's Vice Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy, Namho Choe, announced the launch of the Offshore Wind Power Competitive Bidding Roadmap during a conference with industry leaders at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in Seoul. 

Key highlights from the roadmap

• More offshore wind auctions – New bidding rounds will launch in the second half of 2025 and the following years.
• Enhanced bid evaluation – A two-stage process will assess not only price, but also maintenance, security, and public works.
• Floating wind market – A dedicated auction track for floating wind turbine projects will be introduced this year.

“We are very pleased to learn that four publicly-led bid were successful soon adding 689MW of renewable energy into the Korean grid. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) will release its next wind power tender in October, with a project briefing scheduled for September.
