Reboot of offshore wind in Denmark!

The Danish Energy Agency launched yesterday tenders for three offshore wind zones: North Sea Mid (≥1 GW), Hesselø (~800 MW), and North Sea South (≥1 GW), totaling a minimum of 2.8 GW.
This is great news from Denmark and for the industry as a whole.
– Stein Erik Skilhagen leader for NOW Working group for Denmark and Sweden
Skilhagen also comment that «the Danish market represent opportunities for several of our members, and we will have a special focus on these projects and the market in general onwards. This is our nearest market and I believe there should be good synergies between NOW members and the Danish supply chain».
DKK 55.2 billion
These tenders include a two-sided CfD subsidy scheme with a total state support cap of DKK 55.2 billion (~€7.4 billion) to stabilize returns and reduce investment risk.
«The new tender is a direct consequence of the failed 6 GW auction in 2024, where no developers found the framework attractive enough to bid», says Frederik Frank Greve from Green Ducklings, a consultancy company and part of NOWs working group.
Following an extensive market dialogue, it now appears that the authorities have listened, and we are heading into a much more compelling auction.

And he adds: «The increased flexibility in both the tender design and the CfD scheme could become strong drivers of genuine competition. That said, several important issues still need to be resolved – including final EU approval and a potential complaint from two major onshore developers. Nevertheless, it is encouraging to see momentum returning to the Danish market».
Bidding deadline:
- Spring 2026 for North Sea Mid & Hesselø, Autumn 2028 for North Sea South.
- Targeted COD: North Sea Mid & Hesselø by 2032, North Sea South by 2034
