New offshore wind installation terminal in Poland marks strategic boost for Baltic Sea projects

A new offshore wind installation terminal has been officially opened in Świnoujście, Poland, marking a major step forward for offshore wind development in the Baltic Sea region.

Operated by Warsaw-based ORLEN Neptun, the terminal is designed to accommodate the largest jack-up and heavy-lift vessels, enabling the handling of 15 MW turbines, monopile foundations, towers, blades, nacelles, cables, and offshore transformer stations. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to play a key role in accelerating offshore wind farm deployments across the Baltic Sea.

The terminal has already secured its first long-term contract with the Spanish-French consortium Ocean Winds. The company will use the terminal to prepare foundations and carry out preliminary operations for the 500 MW BC-Wind Farm, among other projects.

ORLEN Neptun’s president, Ireneusz Fąfara, emphasised the terminal’s importance as a pioneering investment in Poland’s offshore wind sector and highlighted its potential to support projects in neighbouring German, Swedish, and Danish waters. He noted that offshore wind will contribute to clean and stable energy supply while supporting new industrial growth in the region.

Located on the waterfront with great transport connections by rail, ferry, road, and air, the terminal is well-positioned to facilitate year-round operations. Its capabilities make it one of the most advanced offshore wind installation hubs in Europe.

This new facility comes at a critical time as the Baltic Sea is rapidly emerging as a significant offshore wind market. The Świnoujście terminal is expected to enhance supply chain efficiency and support the growing demand for offshore wind infrastructure in Northern Europe.
