2025 will be a busy year for the METCentre, with several new projects in the pipeline. Girard-Vika holds a master’s degree in marine technology, and her professional background is with the Norwegian Maritime Authority. She joined the METCentre team as a project manager in 2022, and from January on she takes the helm as the new Director.
-The test activities at the METCentredrivesing the floating offshore wind industry forward and contributes to new learnings to improve the technology and reduce the cost. I am really motivated to lead the important work we are doing, together with our fantastic team and our clients, says Girard-Vika.
The main site outside Karmoy island can host up to 7 power generating units and produce up to 85 MW within its active concessions. The new companies that have signed with METCentre will demonstrate floaters with 15 + MW turbines. Testing at this scale is not possible at any other location in Europe.
-We are excited to see the technological development within floating wind, and the projects at the METCentre will pave the way for innovation in every part of the supply chain. The experience companies gain from project planning, installation, operation and maintenance will be vital for the commercial large scale floating offshore wind parks coming in the main markets for floating wind, says Girard-Vika.
The METCentre is operated by Norwegian Offshore Wind AS, with a connected network of 400 + member companies from the offshore wind industry. CEO Arvid Nesse is excited to have Cecilia Girard-Vika as a new director of the test centre.
-Cecilia has the perfect combination of skills needed to lead this work in a pivotal time for the industry. Everything is in place here for Norway to take a leadership role in developing new technology and reducing costs in floating offshore wind, says Nesse.
In addition to Girard-Vika, Project Managers Monica Bårdsen and Hanne Tvedt work in the METCentre team, with support from the rest of the administration in Norwegian Offshore Wind.
