Galileo Energy and Hope Group have received an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permit from Italy’s Ministry of Environment and Energy Security for the 1.1 GW Barium Bay floating offshore wind project.

- This is great news for Galileo Energy and Hope Group and for the Italian floating offshore wind market. With the EIA permit the Barium Bay project will be applicable for FERII offtake auction expected in 2025, thus making the pipeline of applicable offshore wind project for the auction larger and more competitive, says Saverio Ventrelli leader for NOW Working group for Italy (pictured below during a Visit NOW to Italy).

Barium Bay is located in the Adriatic Sea, east of Puglia. The region is one of 3 epicentres for offshore wind in Italy with a pipeline of projects of 26 GW, and the region has strong industrial capabilities for offshore wind.

- With Port of Taranto and Brindisi identified by Italian Government as key areas for offshore wind and strong fabrication capabilities already in place, the Puglia region has taken a unique position for offshore wind development in Italy, says Tor Arne Johnsen, EU Advisor for Norwegian Offshore Wind. NOW has strong connections to the region and will set up activities for our members targeting the Italian market.
