By leveraging the unmatched experience in high voltage subsea power systems from the O&G industry, SLB OneSubsea is currently working on several client funded development programs that will reduce overall costs and carbon footprint compared to conventional solutions and at the same time increase efficiency.

For HVAC offshore wind developments SLB Onesubsea is currently working on a technology development program that will eliminate the topside substation by placing it on the seabed. By taking advantage of the cool and stable temperature on the seabed a completely passive and maintenance free solution is fully achievable. In addition to the maintenance aspects, placing the substation at the seabed removes water depth constraints and need for large structures and anchoring. The solution is a continuation of OneSubsea’ s decades of experience in subsea high voltage connections, transformers, cable interface and monitoring solutions.

For HVDC offshore wind developments, subsea technologies can also play an important role. By placing parts of the power system on the seabed and take advantage of the benefits that exists there, the size of the HVDC station can be drastically reduced. Together with an operator, a target of 30% reduction has been evaluated and found fully feasible, reducing both costs and carbon footprint of the HVDC substations.

SLB OneSubsea has also extensive experience in subsea cooling from the O&G industry. By leveraging this experience and know how, closed loop and emission free cooling systems is achievable for HVAC and HVDC substations. This will make significant contributions in reduced emission, maintenance scope and increased efficiency.
