  • Market features: Italy is an attractive floating offshore wind market. The country has 207 GW of theoretical floating offshore wind potential, making it the third-largest global market for floating. The country’s objective on offshore wind  is 2GW and 20GW by 2030 and 2050 respectively. Moreover, Italy has a pipeline of 85GW of offshore wind projects in the pipeline of securing permits.
  • Offtake: The offtake measure, Fer II, was approved in 2024, allocates 3.8 GW of offshore wind capacity via Contracts for Difference (CfD) within 2028. There is expected several auctions for offtake the coming years. The date for first auction is not yet set.  
  • Supply chain measures: Italy is setting up strategic port hubs for offshore wind development and has designates Augusta, Taranto, Brindisi, and Civitavecchia as offshore wind hubs. The Italian government has allocated €78.3 million for upgrades (dredging, dock expansion, etc.) at Augusta and Taranto that is two of the main ports in Italy for offshore wind.
