About the Innovation Fund
The EU Innovation Fund is one of the world’s largest funding programmes, aimed at supporting the development and deployment of innovative low-carbon technologies. It plays a vital role in the European Green Deal Industrial Plan, which is designed to help the EU achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The fund is financed through revenues generated from the auctioning of allowances under the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

Between 2020 and 2030, the fund is expected to provide approximately €40 billion in grants. These are allocated through regular calls for proposals and competitive bidding processes, supporting projects that have the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The goal of the Innovation Fund is to bridge the gap between early-stage innovative technologies and market-ready solutions, accelerating their deployment.

Earlier this year, the results of the 2024 EU Innovation Fund were announced. Among the 85 projects selected to receive a total of €4.8 billion in grants, six wind energy initiatives were awarded funding. See the list of awarded projects.
